carl dixon
carl dixon is a houston folk artist who was recently exhibited at the blaffer gallery in "a spirited journey", texas self taught artists. he carves his images into wood and then paints the wood. carl was struck with cancer in his early thirties, a traumatic period in which he became very religious. Carl believes that god gave him his natural, untrained, talent to spread the word. If you ever saw him work, which he does with ease, you would at least believe in his natural talent. Besides his religious subjects, he also creates work about the civil rights movement and portraits (mainly of musicians)
